Yutian Fang

Bio

Yutian is a first-year Ph.D. student from Bren school working with Dr. Hunter Lenihan. She will help with the data collection work in emLab on a project about estimating economic benefits from fishing access agreements between African countries and European Unions. She received her Bachelor of Marine Biology degree from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego in 2019, and Master of Environmental Management degree from the Nicholas School of Environment, Duke University in 2021. Her research interest largely focuses on sustainable fishery management and marine conservation, especially the interaction between human and marine megafauna. Besides that, she is also interested in how fisheries are managed within human society, and pays special attention to the community that may suffer from unsustainable management. Her previous work includes help in mapping the exclusive small-scale fishing area for global fishing countries with FAO, and estimating small cetacean bycatch from tuna gillnets around Indian Ocean. During her spare time, she enjoys taking a walk on the beach, watching TV shows, reading, music, and chatting with friends.
